Before bariatric surgery, preliminary medical examinations are required to check your suitability for the procedure. In addition, a change in diet lasting several weeks is often recommended to reduce the size of the liver and reduce the risk of surgery. We will explain this to you in a detailed consultation. At this stage, we will also inform you about the long-term dietary and lifestyle changes that will be necessary after a stomach reduction operation.

After the operation, a gradual change in diet is usually necessary: from liquid to mushy to solid food. Small portions, slow eating and thorough chewing are crucial to avoid discomfort. Regular follow-up appointments help to ensure the success of the procedure and to detect any deficiency symptoms at an early stage.

Not every patient is automatically suitable for surgery: We operate on patients with obesity grade I (from BMI 30) and II (from BMI 35) as well as serious concomitant diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure. In addition, unsuccessful conservative therapy (e.g. diets) must be proven.

Weight loss varies depending on the procedure and individual factors. The loss is usually greatest in the first six months. Overall, patients can lose 50-70% of their excess weight within one to two years. However, long-term success depends on a consistent change in diet and regular exercise.

As we run a private clinic, treatment is offered to those with public health insurance as a self-pay service. Of course, we will inform you in advance of all costs incurred.

If the expected weight loss is not achieved or complications occur, a sleeve gastrectomy can be converted into a bypass. Adjustments to an existing bypass are also possible. Such interventions are decided individually on the basis of a medical consultation.
